Link above gives you a general idea how I created a faux passport for our Around the World Theme for the Non-School Days.
Unfortunately, I am unable to figure out how to post this so that it could be edited for others to use…meaning, you still have to make your own 😦
I used MicroSoft Excel and set the columns/rows to each be .25 to make a small grid-like work space. From there I experimented with where the actual center is (margins need to be accounted for) so that I could make copies, cut them in half, and not cut off part of one side or have unequal sections.
The visa section was designed for how our day is structured (morning and afternoon activities) and were printed back to back, then cut in half, folded and stapled (along with cover) with a long handled stapler (a regular stapler is not quite long enough)
The information cover sheet was printed, the kids wrote out the info, photos were taken/printed out/glued one, and then glued onto the inside front cover and first visa page (covering 1 page of visas). Names were also written on the back for easy identification.
Passports were given out each Non-School Day and were used to record the activities each kid chose for the day, as a keepsake of the year. Passports were kept onsite for safe keeping and extras were made for those who came to later Non-School Days.

Agent In Training Passports: Each child receives a passport that keeps track of their spy in training courses. Find their spy name on http://www.blogthings.com/whatsyourinternationalspynamequiz/ and write it on their passport. Keep a master sheet with who is who for yourself. Download the Passport using link below:
Play Pass the Ball. Go around the circle a couple of times saying your new spy name. After a few rounds, toss a ball to a random person and say their spy name. Optional: if you say the wrong name, you are out.
Interrogation Training/Police LineUp: Two part game: Each child has a headband created from a long strip of paper on their forehead. Without the child seeing the card, tape one of the suspects to the front of their headband (like the game Headbandz). With a sheet of paper and pencil, have children go around to one another and ask one yes or no question concerning their suspect. They may not ask for the character’s name (Is it Mickey?…can’t ask that) After a set amount of time or questions, have children use the information gathered to pick out their suspect from the line up of characters. Make two copies of printout below, one for headbands and one as the police line up.
Target Practice: Create straw rocket launchers and aim at a outline of a suspect.
Clue Identification: Put out several objects on a tray, let them study it for a few minutes, and then have them close their eyes while you take away 3 or 4 of the objects. Then they would try and write down what was taken away. Each round add a couple more objects to make it more difficult.
Laser Course: Create a Laser course using several pieces of red crepe paper streamers taped catty-wompus through a hallway are marked off area. Goal is to make it through the course without touching a laser.
Create a disguise: Use the printout below (or create your own) to make your own disguise. Take a photo in disguise and add it to your spy passport.
Code Deciphering: Create a Cipherwheel and decode a message. Use link below for directions
Create a crime scene and tell the story: Have small groups use items from the room to create a crime scene (see link for an idea) and have them write the story of the crime scene. Have the other groups view the crime scene and tell what they think happened and see how close they were to the original story.
In the latest version of Minecraft (1.8.4?) using LAN(?), multiple computers/accounts in the same firewall can play on one world. I am still learning this, having the kids help me along the way…so I am not certain how this word, or if I said the right words. (Boy do I feel old when I try to play Minecraft!) Anyway…in this version, I am offering three teams to work on three different tasks on one playing space on different computers. One is Building a Village, where the team works together to create all the things needed to make an awesome village. An outdoor Art Park with Pixel Art and #D Sculptures is the second team’s task. The final challenge is for a team to create an Obstacle Challenge Course. These pretty much incorporate all the various versions I have done in the past, allowing the kids to choose to their strengths and give an opportunity for some great peer team building. This is the Challenge page that includes an Underwater Challenge, a TARDIS Challenge, and a TreeHouse Challenge. Teams work together to gather supplies for the challenges during the first part in Creative/Peaceful Mode, then Switch to Survival/Peaceful to build the various challenges.
These challenges are obstacle courses for players to build. Each is structured a little differently.
Creative Writing in the Summer months has always been a challenge…I get it…it’s summer break, let my brain take a break! Alas, as an educator, I realize that is not the best choice for kids…or adults! I’m always looking for ways to make it fun and not seem too much like ‘work’. Here’s an idea I have seen floating around…roll the dice to pick the ‘ingredients’ to your story. I’ve made a blank version as well, so the group can add their own ideas. Will see how it goes!
